Courses and Examinations

The doctoral program requires candidates to select courses to earn a minimum of 6 to 8 ECTS, as per the GSPE website or by request to the PhD committee. For a comprehensive course catalogue, please consult the list provided below.

Important Information

It is recommended to become familiar with the Core Teaching System CTS (German: KSL) and ILIAS - the learning platform by the University of Bern.

ECTS marked with an asterisk (*) are considered transferable skills and do not count toward the mandatory 6 ECTS.

CTS root numbers refer to the electronic index of the lecture.

Record Consistency

All records must align upon graduation. Ensure that University student records and GSPE student records (DA) match. List all mandatory courses in the DA under Mandatory Requirements; those listed as mandatory must be passed with only one retake allowed.

ECTS Requirements

  1. Earn a minimum of 6.0  to 8.0 ECTS from courses & workshops relevant to your research project.
  2. Participate in the «Scientific Integrity» lecture and the GSPE Symposium from the first year.
  3. Transferable skills courses are optional and not part of the 6.0 ECTS minimum.
